View Full Version : Lake District 24th-25th July

Quick break away to the lakes for the last weekend in July. The lakes are closer than you think and there's some great riding.
We'll determine exact location once we're more aware of how many riders are interested.
One thing I think that might be worth considering - taking a disposable bbq or 2 for tea ;)

count me in! bbq is a good idea!
I've ordered a copy of the book we'd borrowed before going to the lakes recently. It's got some good routes in ;)
Ordered a copy of the North Wales version too :hehe:
What's the plan then? Are we biking Friday and Saturday and any thoughts on where we are staying?

I'm ringing around guest houses, but I thought it might be worth mentioning the idea of camping barns. They seem to mostly involve a lounge/kitchen area, a bathroom and a large shared bedroom with mattresses. We would all presumably need to take along either bedding or a sleeping bag. It's a bit rougher than B&B, but if you don't mind missing out on your luxuries for the weekend, it would be cheaper and possibly more social.
I would post the link, but it's really long and messes up the layout of the page. So follow the link to camping barns at http://www.golakes.co.uk/stay/ if you want to see what they look like. As far as I can tell, they're not that rough, so it could be okay if we pick the right one.
A note of warning: I snore and moan in my sleep, so try to get to sleep before me if you want to get any!
are you having trouble finiding somewhere? or is this just another option? I personally would prefer b&b at less than £30 a night but if that isn't an option let us know.
this place looks good if rooms were available http://www.ferndalelodge.co.uk/index.htm
scratch the above, they only have a double and a twin available, i'll stop interfering now!
well as we know accomodation is booked. Deposit went thru today. What time does everyone think they will be able to get there for? Are we going to be able to fit in a ride on the friday.
Looking forward to it, although i'm not fit enough :)
so.. is everyone ready :D
one slight glitch, when confirmation of booking came, they are going to be charging £30 pppn for the double room, not 26 as they originally said, i've spoken to them but they are unwilling to change it, so it's going to cost us slightly more for the weekend than originaly anticipated. :-(

Oh well ... £30 isn't too bad. It does seem a bit sneaky though. :?
Still, I'm looking forward to it. I reckon that Michael and I should be getting there around 11:30. Or at least the plan at the moment is for me to pick him up at around 9am and head on up. It's quite an easy route from Stoke. Hopefully that means that there will be plenty of time for a ride on Friday. Possibly Grizedale since it's fairly close.
Any thoughts on what a good ride is going to be on Saturday?
grizedale is probably going to be a good bet for friday :D
we've got a few alternatives from the guide book & the website you linked to earlier. probably best thing is to get a few down on paper and chew it over a pint or two on friday
mike if you see this before you see me, i _dont_ have my bleeding kit.. i think it must have been packed up and sent to either my parents or ruth's parents.. we sent a load of stuff off thinking we'd be moved in a couple of months!

I have added three short QuickTime movies to the gallery. Jon, please let me know if they are too large. They are currently 8Mb in all, but I could drop the quality if you're running out of space.
nah im sure they'll be fine at that size :satisfie: i wish i'd had a second go at that rocky bit now.. it looks far too slow from the other side of the handlebars :doze:
the bunny-hop type thing was me pulling the front up in fustration because i'd not pulled it up in time over the rocks :hehe:

I thought that was the reason for the little bunny-hop. I reckon you managed to get some decent speed, although perhaps a bunny-hop would have bought some additional style points.
I just regret that I didn't force everyone to go back and do it again!
